The Moreau factor

By Benjamín García

The Island of Dr. Moreau is a novel written by H. G. Wells. It’s a famous work. So, actually, its them allow us discuss the contemporary problems.

Dr. Moreau has turned animals into humans, so the animal people don’t forget their bestiality. The obvius question it’s: what’s the human being? And, what it’s animality? We are better than the animals? They are better than us?

I love cats and dogs, so, throughout my life i have suffered the constant: “Pass, the dog does not bite”. Then, the dog bite me. I blame the dog? No, i blame the owner because he thinks that the animal its a human being. It doesn’t, Respect the animal being is respect hes animality without imposing our humanity.

In the novel, the humanity triumphs over bestiality, so, whats is the bestiality? May be, the human being its a beast and something else, more beast, mainly.

Pendrick, the protagonist, scapes the island. He never back to the normality (whatever to is). Since he prefers not to be near the people. somehow, he knows that he is a beast that other humans will not be able to bear.

May be that is the lesson the human being is a beast incapable of supporting itself. Thus civilization and all its works are but a vain effort to hide our fangs.
